The Mayor of Haringey Visit
The Mayor of Haringey, Adam Jogee, visited us to talk about how he became the mayor and about his job. He is very proud of his Zimbabwean and Jamaican roots as well as the fact he is the first Mayor of Haringey from the Muslim community. He shared some of the projects he is working on and asked us how we think Haringey could be improved.
Comments from few children in Year 6:
- A Child in Year 6- Today the mayor of Haringey (Adam Jogee) visited our school. Even though he was a bit late he came in style and wore his gold and silver badge. He got a warm welcome from the year 5 and 6 children in the room. He started of by introducing himself and talking to us about his job and how he got it. After, we all asked questions and his answer were impeccable. Personally I would vote for him if I could.
- A Child in Year 6 – On the 7th October 2021 year 5 and year 6 got to meet the Mayor of Haringey. It was so exciting when he walked through the doors every single person clapped and smiled with excitement. He came into the school wearing a navy blue suit with white T-shirt and this enormous gold chain that shined bright in the sun. We asked him loads of questions and we even got to touch his gold chain. It was a great experience and I will never forget it.
- A Child in Year 6 – This cold muggy day the one and only Mayor of Haringey (Adam Jogee!) Visited our school Rokesly Junior School. Here he gave advice to all our young children who looked up to him and how he dealt with our diverse cultures. He also was generous enough to let us touch the one and only chain of Haringey.
Michael Rosen virtual visit
We want to say a big thank you to author Michael Rosen for paying our children a virtual visit last week. We had an amazing time and loved the participation he encouraged even through a screen! Both staff and children were in awe of being in front of our favourite celebrity author and could not stop smiling from ear to ear throughout his visit. You could hear our laughter throughout the school.
Paul Lyall’s visit
We had the pleasure of being in Paul Lyall’s presence this week. He was dynamic, full of energy, animated and inspired all our children to get excited about poetry. They were engaged the minute he stepped into the room and were all eager to share what they had written at the end of the work shop. We were in awe of the poems they produced in a short amount of time and we owe it all to the amazing Paul Lyall and his enthusiasm. It was really infectious.

Competition Winners at Rokesly
As you know, Rokesly Junior School is brimming with talent and we are delighted that four pupils have done really well in two different competitions.
Halle (year 4) and Grace (year 5) were runners up in the Eco-Innovators competition where they had to design an electric charging point for electric vehicles.
This term we were invited to enter Haringey Mayor’s “design a Christmas card competition” and we were thrilled to hear that Ethan (year 6) and Evie (year 3) had won. Their designs have been printed and are being used by the Mayor this year.
Well done to everyone that entered the competitions!
