Computing

At Rokesly, we know that knowledge and understanding of technology is of increasing importance for children’s future both at home and for employment. Therefore, we aim to prepare our learners for their future by providing them with a modern, ambitious and relevant education in computing. We want to equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity that will enable them to become active participants in the digital world.  It is important that children have opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills they need to use technology safely and creatively in an ever changing and developing digital world.

Our curriculum meets the interests of all learners, sequenced with a range of creative learning experiences and challenges based on the essential requirements of the computing programme of study. We ensure learning is embedded and children can build on their understanding, as each new concept and skill is taught with opportunities for children to revisit skills and knowledge as they progress through the school.

We teach a curriculum that enables children to become effective users of technology who can:

  • Understand and apply the essential principles and concepts of Computer Science, including logic, algorithms and data representation
  • Analyse problems in computational term, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems;
  • Evaluate and apply information technology analytically to solve problems;
  • Communicate ideas well by utilising appliances and devices throughout all areas of the curriculum.

We teach the National Curriculum, supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children.
